2. What properties do materials have? As a class, watch the video Properties of materials at <https://tinyurl.com/ut6p67n>. Discuss what objects are made from the materials mentioned in the video; i.e. glass, water, kitchen film, wool, sandpaper, steel, rubber, nylon. Discuss the properties of these and of a towel vs sandpaper.

4. As a class, discuss what materials they observed and which would be best to build a raft or boat. Which materials float? Which materials could be used for a sail? What properties does a sail need to have? What could you make a mast from? Why?

Differentiation:

Less capable students may be grouped together and given a pdf handout of the urban water cycle diagram from <https://tinyurl.com/w6c8b3m>. They can focus on the simple steps of this process.

More capable students can be encouraged to find out more about what happens at the sewerage treatment plant after we use our water. Students can use the fact sheet at <https://tinyurl.com/wzfxmsb> to explore the treatment phases.
