Who needs paragraphs, topic sentences, vocabulary choice, standardised spelling, punctuation, even grammar—when phrases like 'idk', 'brb' and 'lol' get you through?

Maybe we could get away with it, but we'd be doing ourselves a massive disservice. ‘Real’ writing is the window to clear, concise communication, across time and space, to our personality, our intellect, our knowledge, our understandings. Effective, learned and practised writing skills and strategies are vital for higher education; they enable analysis, logical thinking as a life skill; and they are often a prerequisite for employment.

Teaching strategies for writing
Through this six-book teaching resource series, students are directed to produce clear, precise writing for a specific purpose and to understand that proofreading and editing is an integral part of the writing process.

Structured to help your students
Each book is divided into four sections—word choices, sentence structure, punctuation and editing/proofreading—covering the key bases of good writing.

Practice makes perfect
Teachers can work with their students to complete the activities. They also allow differentiation, where some children may be able to complete the worksheets independently.

Assess and record progress
Each of the units has a page of assessment activities. These will give teachers a record of individual understanding and achievement, and highlight common points of weakness.
