Make the most of the school break this year

Make the most of the school break this year

Can you hear that? It’s the sound of the school break approaching. Of course, we all know that teachers LOVE their students, but the count down to that decent break is on and we think you deserve to treat yourself. Our team at R.I.C. Publications has put together this list of ideas to help you make the most of your time off.

Get cultural and visit a museum or art exhibition

Many towns and cities have free museums, galleries and arts centres for you to wander about and immerse yourself in culture. While it is so nice to physically visit an exhibition after the pandemic’s impact on live events, there are other benefits to enjoying these special spaces, such as finding a mindfulness moment. Mindfulness is the defined by the University of California, Berkeley’s Greater good magazine as the ability to maintain ‘a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens’. Take time to really admire an artwork and you might experience the special sense of mindfulness that comes from standing and staring into a beautiful display.

Connect with friends

Stay up past 8.30 pm, get the boardgames out and enjoy some much-needed time with friends. Our top pick for a newer game is Exploding Kittens, where you must avoid the goats, enchiladas and kittens in order to stay alive in a contemporary twist on Uno. Or, you may like to stick to an oldie but a goodie, a game of mystery that is always a hit with those who love to strategise … The classic Cluedo.  Enjoy killing off Miss Scarlet in the library with the pipe! Throw some snacks into the mix and you’re onto a winner—it’s always a better night with wine and cheese.

Get your travel on

You may not be able to disappear during the school term, so make sure you take advantage of this opportunity to get away. If you are looking to holiday in a unique location, Airbnb is fantastic for those quirky, remote staycations. Take a look at this tiny cabin in Busselton, Western Australia, and its amazing, relaxing vibe. Similarly, in Milton, a three-hour drive from Sydney, rests this gorgeous farm stay. Get away and explore some of the incredible spaces and places in the beautiful Australian countryside.

Look after you!

Taking time to indulge in some self care is one of the most important and often missed things for teachers. We know how hard you work throughout the year to enrich your students’ learning, but now is the perfect time to focus on yourself, whether that involves a massage, pedicure or taking a hike in the forest. Here is one of our favourite quotes to inspire you …

At R.I.C. Publications, we have many team members with children in schooling, as well as teachers on our staff, who write our workbooks. We would like to thank you for all the work you have done throughout the school year.

Drop a comment below and let us know what is going to fill your bucket over the holiday period.
