Anzac Day

Anzac Day is a stand-alone blackline master specifically written to take advantage of the resurgence of interest in this topic among today’s young people. It is a contemporary look at a traditional topic, examining the changing role of Australia’s defence forces from direct ‘conflict involvement’ to ‘peacekeepers’. Our role in conflicts from Federation to the present day is examined. Anzac Day consists of ten discrete topics which may be presented as appropriate and in any order. Each topic is followed by three activity pages, nominally in the following order: lower, middle and upper. However, the activities are not labelled as such, which allows the teacher the greatest latitude when deciding which level is most appropriate for his/her class. The activities themselves are language-based and provide for a greater exploration of the significance of Anzac Day and subsequent conflicts to Australia.
